Great advice for start-ups - in 3 words!
Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at 8:11AM I encountered this great list of advice to early-stage entrepreneurs produced by Dharmesh Shah, co-author of one of the best new books on the market: Inbound Marketing.
Early-stage entrepreneurs tend to get lots of advice from lots of people, some good advice, some harmful advice. It's important to weigh these inputs carefully, but be open to new ideas and insights from credible sources who are interested in your success.
In the pages of this blog, we've talked a lot about the important priorities in starting your business. Things like:
- Being clear about the value that you're bringing to customers
- Knowing who your customer really is
- Knowing how to value price your offering
- Focusing on your core value, and outsourcing the rest
- Leveraging OPM (Other People's Money) as much as you can
Even my recent post on the 10 critical questions to address BEFORE your business plan is chock full of such advice. My sincere hope is that you've been finding this advice to be useful.
Well along comes Dharmesh Shah with his list of "Start-up Triplets" which are individual chunks of advice described in only 3 words. A few of Dharmesh's gifts are:
- Face harsh realities
- Believe in yourself
- Decide with data (one of my favorites, in all walks of professional life)
- Sell something today (wow, talking about having a bias for action!)
You get the point. He has delivered 47 of these gems, and then in his blog has invited his readers to contribute more. You will LOVE this list.
Go check out his blog, OnStartups.com and add some of your own!
